The next biggest fight in the history of boxing will happen on May 02, 2009. Manny pacquiao and Ricky Hatton will face in the greatest fight of their lives. And the greatest question is who will be crowned the best pound for pound king of the world. Pacquaio and Hatton both have this reputation. Pacquaio has tremendous power but so is Hatton. Pacquiao is relentless but Hatton has high endurance.
So who has the odds on his side? Who is more likely to win based on the previous performanse of the fighters? in my personal opinion, Hatton is more likely to win. First he is fighting in his most comfortable weight and he has only lost once to mayweigther. Hatton is strong and powerful. His punches strike like a steel ball. Most importantly Hatton won most of his fights convincingly. As for Manny Pacquiao, he has fights that are less convincing and controversial. Pacquiao surely lost his fight with Marquez on their last fight. It was very clear that Marquez was cheated on the score cards. Though Marquez hit the canvas, it was not strong enough to weaken him. He was still able to get up and manage to recover to hit more jabs on Pacquiao's face. If Pacquiao found it hard to beat Marquez, how can he beat Hatton who is bigger and stronger? You might argue that he can do it because he beat Oscar dela Hoya. Yes, he beat del Hoya but during the pacquaio was not hit hard by de Hoya. If dela Hoya had landed just single strong punch on pacquaio's face the fight should been already over. Pacquiao is weak when hit hard. When pacquaio was punished by light jabs from marquez, Pacquiao started losing his rhythm and strategy. Pacquiao is only good when he hits his opponent's face consecutively but when he starts getting punches from his opponent he starts to get confused on how to beat his opponent. He starts to get hesitant to make more offensives when he's beginning to recieve punishment. I would have given no doublt on pacquiao's victory in his coming fight against hatton had he stopped marquez in one of their fights.
